Squares on Red is a bold oil painting and yet not overwhelming in the least.  Red is visually powerful, one of the most commanding of all the primary colours.  It can provoke and represent some of the most intense of all human emotions: Passion:  Obsession: Danger: Anger:  And yet in this composition there is undoubtedly an ambience of calm emanating from this  canvas art. 

For Plato and the ancient scholars of geometry the square represented the earth.  The left has often been regarded as a rejection of religion.  In the Old Testament the right represents dexterity and strength.  In Squares on Red to the right the earth stands strong and true. 

The left represents the darkness and here we see the rectangle ...a mathematical wonder; the conceived perfection of man.  In the world of geometry this is the golden section ..this is perfection.  This is our world?  Both worlds stand side by side in a flood of red.  Balanced and bold they both seem to their place.
