This oil painting Modern Triangle represents those salient characteristics of Modernist Art which regaled society in the early twentieth century. A time when the avant-garde believed it was time to change with the times and move away from outdated traditional artistic concepts and techniques: And to question all those axioms that had molded society and so the arts for centuries.

Modernism is not about spirituality: Nor about Religion. As the poet Ezra Pound stated, it was about making it “New”. It paralleled a new age of industrialization as well as expanding physical and social sciences. In this way the nature of what is reality was the issue – the radical question that was on every artist’s lips.

Here the Modern Triangle is not what we expect a triangle to be – It is not our usual and immediate perception of it: Even so, it is a division of the square and therefore it is a “new” way of looking at things. One of the greatest questions with regards to physics and the arts was the ‘real’ existence of the triangle (the diagonal plane). In this way Modern Triangle questions those theories that all external reality was simply a mathematical equation that did and does not exist.

Here the artist has included erratic lines void of calculation, quantum and religion within the square: As if they are denying the existence of any diagonal planes within. Modern Triangle offers up questions, possibilities and asks the viewer to consider those ideas: A true ode to the concepts of Modern Art.
