The subtle burnt umbers and soft yellows used in Lonesome Journey take us immediately to the dry deserts of Arabia: One tiny man is making his way across those sandy plains to a city which sits high and bold on the horizon – In comparison he is somewhat insignificant.

Lonesome Journey is a metaphor. In many ways it reflects how many of us have felt at some point in our lives – Alone and on a journey to a place that right now seems a long way off in the distance. Even so, while this oil painting may provoke ideas and portray a deeper meaning, it is also extremely aesthetically appealing.

Impressionism was an art form which blended the world between personal expression and realism. Artists such as Pablo Picasso then pushed this concept further by expressing emotional responses more fervently – using color and shape to represent the world: Therefore placing the onus upon more than simple reproduction.
