The classical and acute painterly perfection of Bouguereau was highly favored among the rich art collectors of this era – That is until the ‘up-rise’ of Impressionism toward the end of the eighteenth century; which saw classical artists dismissed as old time traditionalists who were stuck in the past, and considered by the avant guarde as even a little afraid of the future – of change.
