Before deciding which oil painting to choose it is worthwhile studying the room the artwork is going to be placed in? Have a look around and decide where the oil painting is going to go. For example you may wish to hang it over the fireplace; in which case you will need to make sure the artwork is of the right size and also that it complements the room from that position. Sit back and try to visualise how your favourite oil painting will look in its given space. Will the area around it be too cluttered? If so you will have to rearrange things so that when you do place your artwork on the wall it will be displayed at its very best. Re arranging rooms can take time but at the end of the day by taking time now to do things properly your efforts will be well worth the while.
If you have picked a multiple piece oil painting you will need a pencil and spirit level to ensure the painting hangs correctly. There is nothing looks worse than an artwork that isn’t level. Yet, with a bit of time and patience your artwork can become the talking point of your house or apartment, the centre piece of the room. Take your time, engage someone to help you if need be, and put the painting in a well lighted area to accentuate its beauty. Draw a straight line on the wall using a ruler or a bookend. Then all you need to do is hang your painting squarely on the wall and take a few steps back to make sure it looks just right.
Hanging multiple piece oil paintings is a bit more difficult but again the trick here is patience. You will need a measuring tape, a level and a pencil. Start off by getting the centre piece level as described in the above paragraph. When you have done this hang the oil painting on the wall and then work on the two outer pieces. You will need to work out the exact measurements of the centre piece and the two outer pieces. Make sure that the artwork on the two outer pieces line up exactly with the artwork on the centre piece and then check that they are both level. Repeat this exercise for all the different pieces and voila - perfection.
