This oil painting is a beautiful, high quality oil on canvas reproduction of Paul Cézanne’s original portrait also titled Boy in a Red Vest (Garcon au gilet rouge) created around 1888-1890. Paul Cézanne rarely dated or signed his paintings therefore it can be difficult to date them exactly. The background is known to be the interior of his Paris studio located on the Rue d'Anjou: Although the Boy in the Red Vest is unknown. This version is possibly the most well known and is part of the collection owned by the Barnes Foundation, Merion in Pennsylvania.

Cézanne created three versions of this painting: Each using the same young boy in traditional Italian costume (Cézanne often asked his models to wear costumes although there seems to be no real significance in this other than perhaps it added some decorative visual interest to the composition). Valued at around ninety million, the first version of this painting was created around 1894-1895. It was stolen from The Foundation E.G. Bührle Collection in Switzerland on February 10th 2008: And has yet to be recovered.
