The original Au Bord Du Ruisseau - At the Edge of the Brook – was created by the acclaimed French classical painter William-Adolphe Bougereau in 1875. This hand painted reproduction titled At The Edge of The River is of the finest quality and captures the ambience of the original to perfection: Indeed, the name Bougereau and word Perfection are often used side by side in the world of art.

The young girl holds her gaze with the viewer. Her expression is thoughtful; she almost seems to be wondering what all the fuss is about: Indeed, this young girl’s mood seems nonchalant and somewhat indifferent. Bougereau was renowned for the way he was able to capture the very essence of youth and in many ways nonchalance is a privilege of the young.

The significance of this young girl beside the river perhaps in some way reflects that she lies at the water edge: At the edge of adulthood. Her bare feet also give the viewer the idea that she is considering stepping into the water.

This beautiful painting was selected for the poster announcing the 1984 William Bouguereau retrospective which began in the Petite Palais, Paris and went on to the Montreal Museum of Fine Art and then the Wadsworth Atheneum in Hartford.
