Asian Trees reflects the fact that creatively Chinese art is not obliged to adhere strictly to reality: Nor are compositions held to one specific source of light. Both these aspects are obvious within this painting. Behind the tree there is bright white light on the horizon and the viewer is also aware that the main trunk of the tree is highlighted.

Many Chinese Artists will entirely disregard the background in order to enforce the presence of the main subject matter.
