Alexander Ginn bequeathed the original pastel drawing by Renoir, created circa 1886 to the Cleveland Museum of Modern Art in Boston, Massachusetts. Renoir just about always used people he knew as models for his art works. Aline Charigot was Renoir’s long term acquaintance – After ten years Renoir and Aline finally married in 1890. This oil painting depicts Aline and their baby son Pierre: It is thought at some time around from 1885 (when Pierre was born) until 1887.

Renoir created many portraits of women and yet some believe that in some way all of them reflected Aline Charigot: Perhaps indeed she was his materialization of ‘Venus’.
