The warm golden colors of the landscape and sky give African Adventure a tranquil feel. We view the two Elephants, mother and baby, from the other side of the river. The viewer understands this because the artist has included just a touch of grass and twig in the immediate foreground; to the left of that wide river which separates us. Thus, our viewpoint begins in the foreground; moves onto the middle-ground; and then into the background; giving wonderful perspectives to this oil painting.

Africa is a huge continent yet the vegetation and river suggests to us this is probably central southern Africa: Perhaps somewhere near the region where the Savanna plains reach the dense jungle regions of the South. This is certainly not the arid desert plains of the North. Vegetation is lush and green on the waters edge: The white light of the sun flooding the sky with red and gold hues. In turn those hues being reflected upon the water and the landscape.

In Africa there are a large number of carnivores and herbivores, such as elephants roaming free on the plains: A landscape that is alien to the West and therefore intriguing – We are enchanted not only out of curiosity but because of its beauty: And African Adventure certainly is beautiful.
