Abstract Flower is an eye-catching geometric abstraction. The well-defined black lines are chaotically intersected into a geometrical figure which, without the indicative title, would be hard to recognize as a flower.
Geometric abstraction is a form of abstract art based on the use of geometric forms placed in non-illusionistic space and combined into non-objective compositions. Its invention as an artistic style served as a response to the need of modernist painting to reject the illusionist practices of the past while at the same time addressing the two dimensional character of the picture plane.
A forerunner of pure non-representational painting, Wassily Kandinsky was among the first modern artists to explore this approach in his work. However, geometric abstraction has its historic origin as decorative motifs used in many cultures. For example, the prohibition of painting religious figures in Islamic art makes in an example of pattern-based depiction. Centuries ago geometric patterns were used as a visual connection between spirituality with art and science, key attributes of the Islamic philosophy of the time.
Abstract Flower manifests this spiritual connection. The gold color present in the flower petals signifies beauty and richness. This contemporary painting would be a magnificent interior decoration, either at home, or at the office.
