The reproduction oil on canvas oil painting titled A Girl is reminiscent the young girl sitting in the foreground (left) blowing a kiss to a small dog, in his well known oil painting Luncheon of the Boating Party - ‘Le Dejeuner des Canotiers’ - created in 1881. The model seems to be Lucie Berard who modeled for Little Girl in a White Apron in 1879. Little girls often featured in Renoir’s work and invariably the models would be the children of his friends and family. While the style of this work reflects the artist’s fascination with color and light his style has yet to truly emerge: Although without doubt there is spontaneity in the way the color is applied. The little girl in the picture seems to be eating an orange – also reflecting ‘Fillette a l'orange’ - little girl eating an orange – which was created circa 1885-1887. Therefore, the original sketch created by Renoir seems likely to have been made around 1880-1885.
